Caretta caretta - loggerhead sea turtle

A precious link to the past

I cradle you in care.

I carry you towards the ocean

Yet, you crumble in my hands.

Survived for millions of years

Will you survive us?

...

Tell me that your journey

Of a million years

Does not end with today...

Not with us.

Reaching far back into Earth's history, we uncover a species that has been a silent witness to the passage of time, persisting through the ages. The loggerhead sea turtle has inhabited our planet for over 100 million years, maintaining a remarkably unchanged form. It is our living connection to an evolutionary past, giving us a glimpse into the era of ancient oceans.

Despite surviving the eons and enduring the harshest of Earth's trials, this noble creature is not impervious to the influence of the modern world. Environmental shifts, habitat loss, and reckless human actions now cast a shadow of extinction over its existence. In our hands lies the responsibility to secure its place in our world today. We have to make sure that the journey of 100 milion years doesn’t end with us.

"Emerald waters" is a part of the "Ocean" subseries, within the broader collection titled "From Tundra to Tropical Rainforest." Collection also has a written addition to every painting. It's my biggest body of work so far. Paintings feature animals and their stories acros the Earths biomes.
